Well the time has finally come for the Foreman's Hawaii Top Ten. We have held you in suspense long enough and I finally have a little time to sit in front of a computer to do something other than work. So without further a dew here it goes.
10. Having Warm Toes and Hands For 10 Days
9. Criminal Camping
Okay, so I should probably explain a little on this one. In Kodiak you can camp anywhere, no camping permit, nothing, just find a great spot in the middle of no where and go for it. Well we thought the same rules applied in Oahu. So we set up our tent in a very out of the way place only to be greeted by the Honolulu Police just minutes later. Needless to say, we didn't go camping in Oahu. Oh, no ticket though, they said that we would have to make a court appearance and living in Kodiak would make that pretty tough.
8. Walking across a Crater
The Nussbaums joined us for a couple of days while on the Big Island. We enjoyed a great hike in a lava tube and across a big crater. Stephen and I also spent the night at the volcano the night it exploded. (The picture is Stephen going to the very end of the tube).
7. The North Shore Baking
So Stephen and I see very little sun living in Kodiak and everyone could tell that we were not from Hawaii. So the first full day out on the beach Stephen decided to NOT wear sunscreen. I know not the smartest thing. He got EXTREMELY burnt! I got burnt and I was wearing sunscreen. (the picture below is me, Kelli at our favorite beach on the North Shore. I guess this is the beach where they have big surfing competitions)
6. Waipo Valley Hike
On the Big Island there were all kinds of different things to do. I really wanted to go on a BIG good hike. So we headed out to the Waipo Valley. It was so incredible that two of our other top ten come from this hike. The river was really high when we were there so most people were stuck on the other side. The beaches were black sand and the waves HUGE. You can see the trail heading up the other side of the valley and yes I made Stephen hike it with me. It was great!
5. Stephen's Waterfall Jumping

4. Waipo Valley River Crossing.
Ok, so this was probably the most stressful thing I did on this trip. I still get a little stressed when I think about it. So there was a river that had to be crossed to get to the Waipo Valley Trail Head. The river was extremely high and where it wasn't high the water was moving very fast and the big ocean was right on the other side. Stephen was the hero pretty much. He walked back and north making it look like a 5 year old could cross. He even said a couple's life that were trying to get across. The guy had fallen and was being taken out to sea. My strong husband helped him back across to his little wife. So I crossed in the deep area and walked across until it got up to my neck and decided to do the obvious thing, swim the rest of the way. It was cold, scary, but really worth it all.
3. Snorkeling and Kayaking in Warm Water with the Babbits
2. An Amazing Luau
The Babbits treated us to a wonderful Luau that was so much fun. It was right on the water and the dancing, music and of course the food was perfect.
1. Staying with the Babbits
So this may seem like a strange #1, but Stephen and I were truly blessed with the time we spend with the Babbits. Sarah and Jerry are just like Stephen and me, just a little older. Each day we had so much fun exploring the island with them and just enjoying their company.
I will post more picture later, but enjoy this all for now.
