Happy Thanksgiving and Birthday

This year for Thanksgiving I got it in my mind that I should make a turducken.  After a little bit of research and some help from a good friend we made it.  We had over 35 people at our Mission Thanksgiving celebration.  It was crowded for sure, but there was plenty of food.

It was also Stephen's birthday weekend and he wanted to paint the house (not my first choice).  We we did it!  The boys even helped alittle.

What is Stephen's birthday without his German chocolate cake too.

He got a fun new boat hat that he now wears everywhere he goes.  Over the Thanksgiving/birthday weekend we brought home a new horse named Spitz and a little billy goat named Billy.  We really like Spitz and will put up with Billy because he'd like baby kids in the spring.

End of Summer Review

We completed another summer in Kodiak.  I notice that we often say that we were out having adventures or lots of fun.  That's the best part of our job up here.  We get to have a great time everyday.  We do our best to make the most welcoming fun, adventurous place for these Kodiak kids to come.  We are always amazed daily with the opportunity we have to share the perfect one of a kind, never stopping love of Jesus Christ.
We have already begun planning for next summer.

Grandpa Wellensiek in Kodiak

We had a great treat in the fall when my dad came up to visit.  It was a quick trip, but we know how to pack a lot of stuff into a short amount of time.

Once again the weather was great and it was so fun to have him here for a Husker game!

Beautiful Weather Means Lots of Fun

When the weather is nice there is no limit to what we can get out and do in Kodiak.  The silver salmon were coming in strong up the river and had fun catching fish.
The boys spend most of their days outside playing around our "farm" and keeping busy.

When we went to drop off Salmon we had fun watching a local rancher doing things almost the old fashioned way.  Growing up when we ran all of our calves through to be given shots and castrated it was a slick processes.  We'd run them through the shoot, flip them to the side and take care of business.  We also had many more calves than this rancher did.  But they would rope the calves bring them in flip them, give shots, take care of business and brand them.  It was fun to watch for sure.

Africa Foremans in Kodiak

We had a great time when Stephen's brother and sister-in-law came to visit us at the end of the summer.  Stephen had a great time taking them out fishing and island visiting.  The weather was just perfect the entire time they were here with one sunny day after the other.

They saw tons of bears, caught fishing and enjoyed real Kodiak life.

We had fun climbing Pyramid mountain (until the very end when we were all very tired).

We all also enjoyed Labor Day on the beach.

Riding in the Skiff

Over the past two summers Stephen has become a great skiff driver.  Sometimes I can't believe the type of weather he'll go out in just to catch some fish, but he promises me it looks worse than it is.
While the boys and I didn't go on these fishing trips we did enjoy heading out on the water for some rides and visiting nearby islands.

The Foreman Family Farm

We have started quite the little farm here in Kodiak.  Stephen has been such a huge trooper through all my crazy requests, but when the first egg was laid he was completely sold on the idea.

The boys have jumped right in too.  Landry and Greyson can catch just about any chicken and Greyson is quite the goat whisper.  We also enjoyed keeping our bottle calf throughout the summer.

After returning from Nebraska we still had a lot of summer left in Kodiak.  We spent a lot of the time outside playing with the animals, picking salmon berries and riding horses.

I love our little goats and have enjoyed watching them grow up.  They sure are cute little ladies.

At the end of the summer we had fun taking Salmon to the Kodiak fair before having him go back out to the ranch where he came from.  We were sad to see him go, but he was getting pretty big and his horns were definitely growing.

We also started to get a nice little bunch of eggs each day as well.
