A Day Worth Remembering Forever

So this post is more for Stephen and me. We had a crazy incredible day yesterday and didn't want to forget it to soon. Anyway, I had been planning for a couple of weeks to head over to Woody Island with a group of 65 5th graders from East Elementary. I was going to do big group games with them and also give the history tour of the Island. Well as the days approach I became less and less excited about doing this. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the cold wet weather that we had been having. Anyway, it was the night before I was suppose to set sails and Stephen had an incredible idea. He could go with me. Of course a couple of strings would have to be pulled, but after a good talk with his principle and checking in with a couple of classes, we, yes WE were set!
The weather was terrible to say the least. Mid 30s lots of wind mixed with big drops of constant rain was what the Lord mixed up for us. We all (kids, parents, teachers, Stephen and me) loaded onto the Kodiak King the tug boat of Kodiak. We just had to go across the channel, but with the bad weather it made for a cold adventure. Oh, those children were so unprepared for the elements in their tennis shoes, jeans and hoodies (all cotton, bad idea). But for some reason kids really don't get cold. They are so resilient.
Well we made it over to the island, carefully climbed onto the dock and made our way to camp. All the kids huddled into the main dinning hall with a cup of hot chocolate, hoping to never have to leave. Stephen and I knew we had to do something great to get these kids excited about going back outside to play games. So we did a great little impromptu drama with me trying to get Stephen excited, him not being excited, but finally we both headed out in victory. Mission Accomplished:)
We played HUGE group games out in the middle of an open field for about an hour with 65 kids and it was incredible. Totally blessed by God, it really was the only way that could have worked out. All the kids played, they all had a great time, and I got to work with my amazing husband. I was reminded of just how unbelievably great he is at working with kids and when we get to work together everything just runs so smoothly!
We had a little break before supper, so we grabbed some coffee and sat in the dinning hall looking out into the rain over to Kodiak. We could even see our cute little house (at times between the fog and rain). I got alittle prep time also for the history tour.
We ate with all the kids, may of who we knew. Some of them we are actually really close to. They have been in summer camp, KACLAC, and the after school program. They really are like family. Praise the Lord for the relationships we have. At one point I couldn't find Stephen and then I was drawn to a group of kids huddled around, non other than Stephen telling jokes. All the kids seemed to be having a good time, as was he.
Anyway, the history tour went great, and by around 8:30 we were waiting on the beach for the skiff that would take us back to Kodiak. Of course Stephen found 3 pieces of great drift wood (he's making a bed frame with them.) We loaded them up and headed across the water. The man driving the boat actually grew up in Larsen Bay and owns a Lodge there now. He's a bear guide and a true Alaskan. I could hardly contain my excitement as we share story after story with us.
It was an incredible day and what made it perfect was coming home to two very cute dogs and cuddling up next to my husband on the couch. We are so blessed!
Thank you all for your love and support. I know that Stephen and I would never have been able to do what we did yesterday had it not been for the wonderful influences of our families. We love you!
